Investment manager Downing has appointed Gareth Miller to chair its Energy Market Risk Committee (EMRC) as it continues to expand in the sector.

Gareth Miller has 20 years’ experience in energy markets, most recently as chief executive at the energy consultancy, Cornwall Insight. Previously, Miller was an energy policy maker in central government and ran a renewable energy project finance team at Barclays.

Downing’s EMRC sets the framework for how it manages power price and volume risk across the six energy markets it is active in. It also provides guidelines for the management of foreign exchange risk positions.

The company has over 60 professionals dedicated to renewable energy and infrastructure, and since 2010, it has made over 190 investments in the renewables space.

Tom Williams, partner and head of energy and infrastructure at Downing, said: “Gareth’s background at Cornwall Insight and in energy policy makes him the ideal candidate to chair the EMRC at an important time in Downing’s continued expansion in the sector.”

Miller added: “Downing has a strong track record in renewable energy as an active investor across the sector and I look forward to supporting its continued growth.”
