Investors play a crucial role in advancing gender equality by “requesting data on team composition as part of their diligence exercises and reframing their approach to retention and recruitment”, according to Gurpreet Manku, chief executive for Level 20, in the latest ESG Out Loud podcast.

The not-for-profit organisation is focused on improving gender diversity in private markets, with a mission to increase the number of women in senior roles to 20%. In this podcast, Manku explains why gender representation is higher in Venture Capital (VC) than in private equity, and how the organisation uses analysis tools to help investors understand industry benchmarks to improve gender diversity in these markets.

Further, Manku expresses optimism about the future of private equity despite addressing areas of improvement, and encourages financial firms to implement practical and pragmatic actions – such as request diversity data and have open dialogues with employees – to continue the momentum of progress.
