Despite President Donald Trump, sustainable investing appears to be turning a corner, according to Philip Ripman, portfolio manager of the Storebrand Global Solutions fund.
In this Green Dream video interview, dialling in from Oslo, Ripman discusses his career so far, the evolution of sustainability funds and how this has moulded the fund.
He talks about his investments in social solutions including the them of equal opportunities, “which is putting people back into the centre of the discussion”.
He points out women are often underrepresented and underserved when they represent 50% of global population. They have been left out of a lot of medical trials, for example, and there are growth opportunities for companies that can zero in on this and offer services that have been underrepresented such as in the fields exploring cervical cancer, diagnostics and ultrasound machines.
Ripman also emphasises the challenges we started talking about 20 years ago in the industry haven’t gone away, they are becoming more prevalent, and we are going to see more losses in terms of climate change adaptation. This will be more front of mind for investors.
