In 2025/6, under European Union requirements, corporates will need to start reporting on their biodiversity impacts, and publish defined biodiversity action plans, including KPIs and monitoring, in order to align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Many companies have only just begun to look at their impact and dependencies on biodiversity but Dr Samuel Sinclair, director of Biodiversify, a conservation consultancy, has been working with some of the largest companies in the world – including Primark, WWF, Kering (owner of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) and DEFRA – since 2018.
In this video interview he explains how companies are beginning to analyse their impact on biodiversity loss within their business and supply chains, and how this can massively vary from company to company. Further, he shares how companies have moved on from thinking this is an environmental opportunity to a commercial one as markets open up, and what he would like to see from sustainable investors.
