E3G appoints chair as co-founder steps down

Think tank ‘moving beyond its founders’

The board of climate change think tank E3G has appointed Hedwige Nuyens (pictured) as its new chair, with co-founder Tom Burke – who had been chair for more than a decade – stepping down with immediate effect.

Nuyens currently serves as the CEO of the International Banking Federation, chair of European Women on Boards and is a a member of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council. The appointment “represents an important evolution of E3G as a sustainable organisation moving beyond its founders”, said the E3G board.

Burke will continue to be a non-executive director. He commented: “I am delighted to welcome Hedwige Nuyens as the new chair of E3G in this our 20th anniversary year. The coming decade will determine whether global climate policy succeeds or fails. Hedwige brings a glittering portfolio of experience, energy and skills to E3G that will greatly strengthen our ability to do more to keep the climate safe.”

On her appointment, Nuyens said: “I am honoured to take on the chair role of E3G, building on the tremendous work and achievements under Tom Burke’s leadership. I look forward to working with the board and the whole team, supporting E3G to further deliver innovative climate strategies and solutions for the benefit of all.”
