HSBC Asset Management has launched a fixed income strategy investing in sustainable securities in global emerging markets.
Overseen by head of emerging market debt Bryan Carter, and managed by Caroline Keany and Julio Obeso, the fund will invest in bonds that are domiciled in emerging markets and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) covering Climate Action, Affordable and Clean Energy, Clean Water and Sanitation, Good Health and Well Being and Reduced Inequalities.
Carter commented: “Emerging markets are at the epicentre of sustainable investing, a just transition and Paris alignment. Direct and consistent engagement with emerging market issuers can offer opportunities for assessing their ESG plans and progress, their challenges and gaps, and to help drive positive change.”
The Article 9 fund has been seeded by Finnish pension insurance company Varma with $50m.
