Quilter Cheviot has launched a year long investment management internship programme for young people wanting a career in wealth management.
The wealth manager received more than 700 applications for the programme, and has enrolled four interns in the firm’s London office, as well as two interns in its Birmingham office.
University degrees were not a requirement for the programme, in line with Quilter Cheviot’s ambitions to increase diversity within the industry.
Instead, the interns will study for their level three Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment exam over the course of the year, as they rotate across different areas of the business.
The interns work across specific areas of the business throughout the year, including on teams such as research, investment risk, responsible investment, marketing, operations, front office as well as sales and distribution.
Quilter Cheviot said its aim is to create job opportunities for the next generation of wealth management talent, “by providing industry expertise, support, guidance, and an in-depth experience of working within the investment management industry”.
Andrew McGlone, chief executive at Quilter Cheviot, who joined financial services as a trainee nearly 30 years ago, said the internship programme “will provide committed and talented individuals from all backgrounds with the chance to break into the wealth management industry”.
“Our objective is to help develop the skills, knowledge, and connections the next generation needs to succeed in this field; and to introduce fresh perspectives and diversity of thought and ideas to our business,” he added.
