Robeco to support UK environmental charity

The fund firm is backing a charity which encourages companies and consumers to ditch single-use plastics, as part of its wider marketing

The UK arm of asset manager Robeco has announced a partnership with marine conservation charity City to Sea, to support its endeavours in preventing plastic pollution.

The fund firm is to offer financial support, becoming the charity’s UK sustainability investing partner, to heighten awareness of the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics.

The agreement ties in with Robeco’s wider programme to allocate marketing spend to social and ethical goals which deliver a positive impact for society, the planet and the group.

“Robeco has a unique sustainability culture that has evolved over the last 20 years,” explained Peter Walsh, head of Robeco UK.

“We are pioneers in sustainability investing, launching our first dedicated sustainable fund in 1999. Sustainability is clearly changing countries, markets and companies and it is important that we meet the needs of the present generation without compromising those of generations to come.”

Robeco has already signed up to the Plastic Solutions Investor Alliance, an international coalition of investors that uses engagement techniques to encourage public companies to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics.

Natalie Fee, founder of City to Sea said the charity’s campaigns raise awareness, which empowers people to stop plastic pollution.

She explained: “We are thrilled that Robeco have joined us to help fight plastic waste. The company’s core values are very much aligned with what we are trying to achieve, and I look forward to working with them.”

As part of the deal with the charity, Robeco will support the group’s “Refill” campaign which specifically targets the manufacturing of plastic bottles. It aims to educate on the use of technology to make refilling reusable bottles easier by encouraging the use of refilling stations in as many locations as possible.
