Swiss Life Asset Managers has added a second international renewable energy infrastructure fund to its product range, giving investors access to unquoted businesses in the space.

The Fontavis ESG Renewable Infrastructure Fund II invests in unlisted clean energy and infrastructure assets and companies and is open to qualified investors. Its objective is to build a globally diversified portfolio of direct infrastructure energy investments with attractive growth prospects.

The fund is aiming to raise €750m (£640m), with the first close in the fourth quarter of this year.

This product is the successor to the Fontavis ESG Renewable Infrastructure Fund Europe which Swiss Life Asset Managers launched to complement its existing clean energy portfolios.

The new fund builds on the strategy of its predecessor, focusing on high quality investments in the renewables and clean energy sector. Targeting investments in OECD countries, it aims to build a diversified portfolio with unlisted assets focused on energy generation from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass, as well as storage and renewable fuels.

The fund will be advised by a dedicated renewables team that builds on partnerships with project developers, energy companies, investors, public authorities and other stakeholders.

“We are proud of our track record and alignment of interest with our investors as we invest substantial amounts in the fund as well. The fund builds on the success of its predecessor while adapting to the everchanging market environments,” said Christoph Gisler (pictured), head of infrastructure equity at Swiss Life Asset Managers.

“In line with our strategy, we want to apply our deep know-how of the energy sector and invest in all fields of the energy transition. As such we contribute on behalf of our investors to make electricity generation, heat supply and mobility more sustainable”, added Marc Schürch, head of renewable energy at the group.

Fontavis ESG Renewable Infrastructure Fund II will be classified as an Article 8 fund under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
