The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has received strategic, multi-year grant funding from The Rockefeller Foundation, with the organisation also joining TNFD’s Stewardship Council.
According to The Rockefeller Foundation, the grant is part of its broader effort to mobilise private sector resources for climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, while playing “a meaningful role in mainstreaming nature-based solutions” – something it said was an increasing focus as it builds out enabling architecture for business and finance on the climate side.
“Nature’s health determines people’s health — and the quality of the food we eat, the jobs we have, the economies that shape our well-being, and so much more,” said Maria Kozloski, senior vice president of innovative finance at The Rockefeller Foundation.
“While most of the services nature provides are not paid for, we are excited that the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures is advancing ways to understand how businesses use them and encourage businesses to assess and better manage their nature-related issues.”
David Craig, co-chair of the TNFD, commented: “TNFD is proud to announce this multi-year support from The Rockefeller Foundation. This grant will help us maintain the momentum of our second phase of work, as we continue to encourage voluntary market adoption, build out our market capacity-building interventions and develop our roadmap for enhancing access to high-quality nature-related data.”
In October last year, the TNFD announced the total number of companies and financial institutions committed to voluntary reporting of their nature-related issues in line with the TNFD recommendations had increased by 57% since the first formal announcement of TNFD Adopters in January 2024. Of those, 129 financial institutions had registered as TNFD Adopters, representing £17.7trn in assets under management.
