During times of crisis, modern slavery issues are heightened and yet “we constantly have to remind companies this is a critical issue,” Crossman says in the episode. In the UK, the Modern Slavery Act is not enforced by the government, despite this being welcomed by investors, he adds. However, there are relatively simple steps investors can take to start engaging businesses on this issue, which Crossman outlines in the podcast.
