Aviva Investors has strengthened its equities team with the hires of a new head of sustainable equities, as well as a head of equity research.
Luciano Lilloy has joined from Impax Asset Management to take the role of head of sustainable equities, which is a newly created role at Aviva Investors. Tasked with developing the firm’s sustainable equities capabilities, he will also become a named portfolio manager on the group’s Global Climate Equity strategy.
Meanwhile Duncan Bulgin has joined from GAM Investments to take the role of head of equity research, succeeding Max Burns, who is retiring later this year, after what the group describes a phased transition.
With more than 20 years of investment experience, as both an analyst and portfolio manager, Bulgin will also oversee global commodities research.
As part of the transition for Burns, the group announced Harsharan Mann will be named co-portfolio manager of the Global Core strategy, to work alongside Lilloy.
“Luciano and Duncan both bring with them vast industry experience and knowledge that will complement the existing expertise within portfolio management and research teams,” said Nicholette MacDonald-Brown, head of active equities at Aviva Investors.
“We want to thank Max Burns for his significant contribution to the Aviva Investors equity team over the last decade and wish him all the best in retirement,” she added. “Whilst we’re sad to see him leave, we’re equally happy to see Harsharan Mann assume portfolio management responsibilities for the Global Core strategy, which reflects her development and growing contribution to the team.”
In addition to the arrivals of Lilloy and Bulgin, the firm also announced it has united its equities capabilities under a single leadership structure.
As part of these changes, the Index Investments team will also move into the equities business, led by MacDonald-Brown who joined the firm as global head of active equities in September 2025.
